Japanese Meiji Period Ko Dansu, circa 1880

A beautifully aged Japanese Ko Dansu, or small chest, dating from the Meiji period, circa 1880. Crafted from lightweight kiri (paulownia) wood, the chest features multiple drawers, a small locking cupboard and traditional hand-forged iron fittings.

The warm timber has developed a wonderful patina from more than a century of use, while the original-style iron handles, corner plates and lock hardware give the chest strong character. A highly decorative yet practical piece of Japanese antique furniture, ideal for storing jewellery, documents or treasured objects.

In good working order.

The dimensions are Width:600mm x Depth:330mm x Height:450mm.
