A Kamakura Bori Hibachi. It is carved then lacquered with red then black lacquer over that then the black is rubbed off creating this wonderful unique design.
Kamakura lacquer ware (Kamakura-bori) originated in Kamakura during the Kamakura period. It developed under strong Zen Buddhist influence, when artisans carved wooden Buddhist sculptures and ritual objects.
In fair condition as there is some lacquer loss around the edges.
