Japanese Kiri Suzuri Zeni Bako dating from around 1900, crafted from warm-toned Kiri (Paulownia). The box features a hinged top, small front drawers and extensive hand-forged iron corner fittings and reinforcing straps. Originally used to store writing implements, inkstones, brushes and related items. The aged timber, traditional ironwork and naturally developed patina give this practical antique box wonderful character and a strong sense of Japanese craftsmanship.
