This is a Meiji Period Merchant’s chest from the Osaka Region.
Beautifully crafted Choba Dansu dates to the late 1800s and would have held pride of place in a merchant’s shop. Each drawer was designed to organise business records, reflecting the precision and discipline of traditional Japanese commerce. Handcrafted by a master artisan, the chest features refined joinery and warm aged patina, making it both functional storage and a striking statement piece for modern interiors.
