This is a large Tei Bako Box . It is beautifully adorned with a subtle gold design of a tree with a crane above and a turtle below. This is layered over the black and is rubbed off creating this wonderful finish.
There is one removable tray inside.
In good condition, however there are some chips and scratches, mostly on the bottom which are shown in detail in our photos.
“Tei Bako” means trick box or clever box. These would be used for personal use such as keeping sewing materials out of the hands of children, or to store jewellery in the home, or as letter writing boxes.
