Antique Japanese Elm Merchant’s Chest
Elm fronted Tokyo Region Merchant’s Chest is made up of multiple drawers and compartments they were used by shop merchants.
These chests were in pride of place exhibiting the owner’s prosperity.
It is made with Japanese Elm, Persimmon and Japanese Cedar. Hand forged iron metal work.
It was used for the storage of ledgers, ink, paper, documents and writing paraphernalia.
Meiji Period 1868-1912
