Experience our journey
Importer of Japanese Antiques, Art and Textiles
Edo Arts is a Sydney-based importer and retailer of authentic Japanese antiques and vintage items. Our journey began in the early 1990s during what was meant to be a one-year stay in Kyoto, Japan. That year turned into five as we fell in love with the artistry of Japanese antiques—buying, collecting, restoring, and selling unique pieces. Paul started selling at Kyoto’s iconic temple markets, where we built lasting relationships and trusted connections.
Japanese antiques are truly special—each piece is a one-off, crafted by master artisans and custom-made, so you’ll never see the same item twice. Today, we travel to Japan several times a year to handpick each item from carefully guarded sources. We handle all packing and unpacking ourselves, staying hands-on with every detail of the business.
We’ve proudly been trading in Sydney for over 25 years and have called Terrey Hills home for the past 20. Our collection includes a wide range of Japanese tansu (chests), byobu (folding screens), scrolls, coffee tables, bronze vases, ceramics, lacquerware, granite lanterns, garden water bowls, kimono, and textiles. At Edo Arts, we bring the timeless beauty of Japan to Australia, one unique piece at a time. Karman and Paul Whitford
