An Osaka Region Merchant’s Chest or Cho-Ba Dansu. These shop chests are made up of multiple drawers, compartments and a secret drawer. These chests were in pride of place exhibiting the owner’s prosperity.  They were used for the storage of ledgers, ink, paper, documents and writing paraphernalia.

It is made of Hinoki (Japanese Cypress) and Kiri (Paulownia) with hand forged iron metal work.
