Kitchen Chest (Mizuya-Dansu) from the Hikone region. The top section of a Kitchen Chest.
Construction is Hinoki (Japanese Cypress) frame and Sugi (Cryptomeria) box with Keyaki (Zelkova) door panels and drawer fronts.
The Hardware are hand beaten Iron Crescent moon shaped handles.
A very versatile chest that can be used for the storage of cutlery, crockery, tableware, linen, liquor, books or stereo and a TV stand. The top has been reinforced with a 40mm x 40mm piece of cedar to accommodate heaver weights.
