Antique Tokyo Region Merchant Chest Width:775mm. Merchant’s Chest or Cho-Ba Dansu are made up of multiple drawers, compartments and a secret drawer. They were used by shop merchants.
These chests were in pride of place exhibiting the owner’s prosperity.
It is made of Kiri (Paulownia) with hand forged iron metal work. It was used for the storage of ledgers, ink, paper, documents and writing paraphernalia.
