Japanese Elm Merchant Chest or Choba Dansu. Elm fronted Osaka Region Merchant’s Chest is made up of multiple drawers and compartments they were used by shop merchants. These chests were in pride of place exhibiting the owner’s prosperity.

It is made of Keiyaki Japanese Elm,  Sugi Japanese Cedar and Paulownia with hand forged iron metal work. It was used for the storage of ledgers, ink, paper, documents and writing paraphernalia.
