Japanese Choba Dansu Merchant Chest from the Gifu Region of Japan.
Merchant’s Chest or Cho-Ba Dansu are made up of multiple drawers. They were used by shop merchant.
These chests were in pride of place exhibiting the owner’s prosperity.
It is made of Paulownia and Japanese Cypress. It was used for the storage of ledgers, ink, paper, documents and writing paraphernalia.
