Mid 19th Century Choba Dansu Merchants Chest.
Merchant’s Chest or Cho-Ba Dansu are made up of multiple drawers, compartments and a secret drawer. They were used by shop merchant’s. These chests were in pride of place exhibiting the owner’s prosperity. It is made of Zelkova, Chestnut or Cryptomeria with fancy hand beaten metal work. It was used for the storage of ledgers, ink, paper, documents and writing paraphernalia.
